Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
criminal victim's rights
In 1994 I was assaulted by an indigent relative and lost the vision in one eye. The offender was aprehended, tried and convicted in a Circuit Court (Michigan v. Defendant). As a result of the assault I was not eligible for SS Disability but I am told Michigan has a program to compensate victims of such crimes. If correct can you verify and provide information on the criteria for a claim and how to pursue? Thank you

victim's rights
Michigan has a law known as the Crime Victim'sRights Act. There are specific time limitationson the reporting of the crime and the paymentof any money. You should go to the CircuitCOurt Clerk's office where your trial was held and ask to speak to a clerk. If that does not work, call me.
