Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

Domestic Viloence

This is a follow up question to my previous one, I just couldn't figure out how to ask it so I started a new question. My 77 year old 100 pound 4'9'' mother with a blocked artery, heart problems, diabetes and athritis, and never so much as gotten a speeding ticket is being charged for threatening to kill my 200 pound father with a knife. She has been abused physically and mentally by him and called the police 5 times on him which the police never did anything. Until my father called the police on my mother as a payback, now the prosecutor wants to prosecute my mother. The previous great answers I recieved scared the shit out of me and I decided to hire a good attorney rather than the $75 court appointed attorney. They all seem to want a $2500 retainer. My question is: How much does this cost on average to get her off? My father is not pressing charges, in fact admitted to me that he only called the police because she called them on him. I just want a rough figure on price, also is it possible to get it dropped at the pre-trial?

Re: Domestic Viloence

If you want a quote, I need to know the exact name of the charge , the bond amount and the bond conditions, and the location of the court.

If your mother is charged with simple assault or domestic violence; was released on a personal (no cash) bond; and allowed to return home with your father, your concerns about the quoted retainers are valid.

Contact me if you want another opinion.

Re: Domestic Viloence

There is no "average" price for an attorney. Perhaps you've heard the old saying "You get what you pay for." A retainer fee of $2,500 is VERY reasonable. If you have additional questions I'd be pleased to answer them. You can phone me at

Yes, it is possiblr to get it dropped at the pretrial, but it will not happen automatically. $2500 should be the total fee, in my opinion.

In what city is the case?
