Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
Domestic Violence Michigan
I am a live in girlfriend in a domestic violence case. I was wondering if I am allowed by law to refuse to testify. Also if this is helpful to do, I am on my boyfriend's side. I was drunk and made it sound like it was something that it was not. The problem is it would be a third offense, 2nd against me.

Re: Domestic Violence Michigan
You may not refuse to testify as you are a witness for the State in a crminal action. However, you can certainly express your views about the situation to the prosecutor.
What is more important is that you
are a victim once again by this person and this person victimized someone else. Violence only escalates, especially when they know that they are "immune" from prosecution because of a victim who is unwilling to cooperate with the prosecutor. You deserve to live a happy life, free from abuse and no one has a right to harm you. I recommend that you immediately get out of this relationship and get into a healthy relationships counseling.
