New Drunk Driving Laws in Michigan

I have heard several stories about Michigan's new drunk driving penalties, and was wondering the real truth about 1st, 2nd and repeat offense drunk driving laws. What happens to 1st, 2nd and repeat offenders?

Re: New Drunk Driving Laws in Michigan

Contact me by phone aat (810) 463-5821 or (517) 699-5090 and I will fax you a copy of a chart detailing the new law. For the most part both OUIL and OWI are now 93 day misdemeanors. Ouil 2 and OWI 2 are 1 year misdemeanors and OUIL 3 and above are 5 year felonies. The major difference between the old and the new is that all 625 offenses aare counted for a 3rd under the new so that an individyual who is convicted of an OWI and an OUIL will be charged with an OUIL 3rd on the next 625 charge. Under the new law, the Judge does not impose license sanctions. Sanctions are handled by the Secretary of State. For a second 625 conviction within 7 years the driver's license is revoked for at least 1 year and no restricted license is available. For a 3rd it is revoked a minimum of 5 years.
