Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

An ex-friend of mine broke into my neighbors garage. I didn't know this untill a detective shows up at the door of my new home that I just bought. The detective was leed to my home because I had returned a door lock that I found in a box of misc. itmes by the trash of the townhouses that I use to live in. The resept was in the box so I figured free money right. There were several other items that were found in my home that were also taken from that garage. Again I had no idea that this guy had broken into our neighbors garage or that he had given items to my wife, during the move, as a housewarming gift. To my knowladge the items that were here at my home that were stolen, were items we had stored in the basement of the townhouse. I told the detective that the items in question were my wifes pryer to us getting together over a year ago and that they were brought here to the home during the move. So later when my wife got home I asked her about the stuff and she tells me that Rob pulled them off the trailer when they were unloading the first load at the new house. He said to her that they were a house warming gift. There was a box of mic. items he had her rumage threw to see if she wanted anything. Now here is were I asume that this box was brought back by him to the townhouses and left next to the dumpsters, were later I discovered the door lock that I first intended for use at the new house. When I found out this informatioin about the items being a gift I called the detective and told him. Also giving him my wifes number. She told the man what she knew. Now this detective is saying he will be charging me with B&E. The person who actually commited the crime is in jail, now, for retail fraud. I have a record myself but have spent the last two years working hard to rebuild my life. I don't want this issue to put me back into that hole I have dug myself from. Please what are my options?
