Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

Expungement of old conviction in Michigan, Kalamazoo

I need to know exactly what I have to do to have my old record expunged. The State of Michigan will not pay me to watch my grandchildren until this is expunged. The conviction was: Welfare Fraud by Failure to Inform in Kalamazoo, MI back in 1982 or 1983. I live 4 hours by car North of Kalamazoo in Antrim County. Travel is a problem, depending on income at the time. Can I do this myself with guidance? Or do I have to have a lawyer? If so, I need to know the cost and if payments are possible.

Thank you
