Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
expungement
I have 4 misdemeanors, 2 are disturbing the peace, one is atm fraud, and one is fileing of a false police report, I also have one felony conviction, for unarmed robbery. They are all over 5 years old, can I get the felony expunged, I am attending school for criminal justice and would like to eventually be an officer, these charges are old? Do I have a chance, is it do able? I live in Grand Rapids, MI. The felony was commited in Ottawa county, and the rest in Kent County.

Re: expungement
No, you cannot get anything expunged. You may wish to contact law enforcement agencies to determine if they will even hire you with your record.
If the answer is no, you may wish to re-think continuing your current course of study.
Re: expungement
No. If you have one and only one criminal conviction (felony or misdemeanor), anywhere, any time in your life, you cannot set aside (expunge) ANY of the convictions. Expungement is only available under current Michigan law for people with ONE AND ONLY ONE conviction.
But, laws change. There have been bills discussed in Lansing in recent years to loosen up the qualifications for expungements (e.g., you can expunge a felony if you have just one other misdemeanor). But I have not seen any bills that have allowed people with 5 convictions to set aside any of them.
