Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
Failure to appear for Jury Duty
I have been served a show cause order for failing to appear for jury duty.
1.) I am a survivor of a violent crime and did not know that I was not already taken out of the Jury pool.
2.) When originally summoned I wrote down what number to call and when and threw away the notice figuring it would get lost anyway. I didn't know that I needed some reference number on it.
3.) I attempted to contact the Jury office when I discovered I needed the number and was told there was no other way to reference my name to find out when to appear. That I would have to skip it and wait for a letter explaining my options.
4.) They sent the letter 9 mos later stating I had to respond w/ in 10 days. I recieved the letter 2 days before the 10 was up and was in the middle of starting a new job.
So, my question is, besides showing up, what else can I do to make this go away?

Re: Failure to appear for Jury Duty
You can have your attorney attempt to deal with the judge to offer explanations and alternatives.
