Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

Felony Expungement

If I have a felony charge expunged. Will I then be able to answer no to the question ''Have you ever been convicted of a felony.'' Also will I be able to get a government job or are their background checks more in-depth.

Re: Felony Expungement

An expungement prevents the public from seeing that particular conviction. However, governmental bodies, such as FBI, CIA, etc.., will always be able to see it. Sorry, but it doesn not go away as you may be thinking it does.

Just be honest with your government job.

Re: Felony Expungement

If a conviction has been set aside (expunged) then you can truthfully say that you were not convicted of that crime.

If the question is, "Have you ever been arrested ...?" or "Have you ever been charged ...?", then the correct answer would be "yes".

We cannot guess whether you can get "a government job" or whether The Government you want to work for has more in-depth background checks. First, this is a Criminal Law forum, not an Employment Law-type forum. Second, you don't idenitfy which "government" you're talking about, what department of that government, what job you're applying for, etc. But, even with that additional information your closing question is off-topic for this forum.
