Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

Flying while on probation

If I am on probation, and I am not to leave the state and I wanted to go on a vacation for a weekend fri-sun say will the courts be notified of me leaving? And returning? I am on probation for obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and larceny under 200 dollars. I have served over a year of probation already and have had no problems with anything. I really don't know what I am risking by going.

What are you "risking"? Getting caught!

If the court finds out that you went out of state w/o permission, your probatioon could be vioated and you could go to jail.

Judges and probation officers are people, too. They to not like being lied to, or made fools of. If this is a legitimate weekend vacation and you have been doing well on probation, why not be up-front with your probation officer and tell him/her your plans and ask for permission?

The old joke "it's better to ask for forgiveness than for permission" does NOT work here.

DO NOT violate the terms of your probation. You could end up behind bars if you do. Your attorney might be able to obtain the judge's permission for you to go on vacation.
