a ''friend'' stole 2 valuable rings

A friend stole 2 expensive rings that were handed down to me from my grandmother, they were on the windowsill of my kitchen, she's the only one that was in here, plus she has a bad history. Please! What can I do? She Denies it- Thankyou

You can file a theft charge, or you can try to mediate return of the rings, but if she denies it. then you might not get anywhere.

As a practical matter, you could advise your friend that you already have called the police to satisfy your homeowner's insurance carrier and that they asked you who was last seen in the vicinity of thr rings. Reluctantly, you gave them her name.

However you were going to make one last thorough search of the house just to make sure you weren't mistaken. Because, if you were, you would call the police back immediately and withdraw your report.

Then, leave the access to the kitchen open with you not present for enough time to give her the oportunity to return the rings.

Sounds silly, but you might keep your rings and, if you wish, your friend.

If it fails, you can always call the police later - but not much later. I doubt that you'll get much from the insurance unless the rings were seperately insured.
