Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

a gentlemen was charged with several charges and was released on a 250,000 bond no 10%. He was released on a 24 hour GPS tether with no out time. Exceptions were only made for court dates, meetings with lawyer and medical appointments or emergencies. 6 months after being released the victim in the case was murdered. the family came forward naming the defendant as the cause or reason for this. Two weeks following this news release a court date was set to revoke bond. The date was filed by the judge not the prosecutor. No charges have been filed against him in association with the victims death. Bond was revoked and defendant is to remain in custody until trial begins. We have a lawyer but do not feel he is doing his best to help us. We have nothing to compare his judgement or decisions to, as this is our first encounter with such a matter.

Sorry to hear about your situation. It must be scary for all of you. Make appointments with some attorneys in the area to discuss the case and get their opinions. Many, if not most, lawyers offer free consultations. Bring all court paperwork and police reports to be reviewed. Look for attorneys that specialize in criminal defense, meaning it is the majority of their practice or their exclusive practice. Ask how many years of experience they have, how many trials they have done, and if they belong to any associations devoted to criminal defense practice. I wish you well.
