Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
"Good time" credit for habitual offenders
Is a criminal defendant who pleads guilty and is sentenced under the habitual offender statute entitled to sentence reduction or "good time" credit while serving time on that single offense?

Re: Good Time Credit
It depends. Good time was awarded to inmates in Michigan for offences committed prior to Proposal B. Since that time disciplinary credits have been used instead of good time in prisons. There is still Sheriff's good time in county jails. With the passage of truth in sentencing all disciplinary credits for certain crimes starting this year will be eliminated. This will extend to all crimes after the turn of the century.
If your crime is a non-proposal B and the crime was committed aftyer 4/1/87 you are entitled to disciplinary credit on the minimum sentence of 5 days per month plus you are eligible 2 days of special credit each month on the minimum. The same is true for the maximum sentence. If you are serving a major controlled substance offence there is no credit on the minimum but you can get 5 regular and 2 special days per month on the maximum.
Would need to know what the underlying offence was to be able to compute the credits to which you may be entitled to if any.
