Re: high court misdiminer
A felony is any crime carrying a penalty of more than a year in jail.
A high court misdmeanor is a crime carrying more more than a year and up to 2 years imprisonment as a punishment that the legislature has decided will be called a high court misdemeanor rather than a felony. It is processed like a felony (so it is tried in circuit court, you can have a preliminary examination, etc.) but it is technically called a misdemeanor (which some defendants think is a benefit).
