Hotel room damage

Can I be charged with a criminal offence in the state of Michigan for causing $1000 damage to a hotel room?

Yes ... IF there is probable cause to believe that this happened and you did it or aided/abetted someone else doing it.

If you rented a hotel room and intentionally damaged content, you might get charged. Just because you rent a room, you do not have carte blanche to destroy all the property in it as part of your nightly rental fee.

Michigan has a crime called Malicious Destruction of Property (MDOP). There are several types (MDOP-Personal Property, MDOP-Buildings, MDOP-Police Property, etc.), and most have levels of damage (misdemeanors = under $200, or from $200 to $999; felonies = $1,000 to $19,999, or $20,000 or more).
