illegal entry by police

my son was arrested for minor in possession of alcohol in michigan. he is 19 years old and consumed alcohol in his own rental home and then went to bed. a male guest with a 15 year old girl came into the house while everyone was sleeping. the girl's father was looking for her and the police traced her to my son's house. the male gust let the police in the locked house where they proceeded to question the male guest and then wake up my son and bring him to the police station and jail for breathalyzer and booking on the mip charge. was it legal for the police to come into the house when all the renters were in bed sleeping and then to be arrested?
