Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

I was informed that i will be charged with extortion in the future...a songwriter brought his music to me and asked me to rerecord some tracks for him... we agreed on a price and after being paid for only 2 of 7 we made a verbal agreement that he would give me songwriting credit instead of payments...it was only averbal agreement but i have 2 witnesses to the fact that was our agreement...now the songs are being published and i couldn't come to an agreement with the record company/ publisher...after numerous calls and disagreements we've agreed for me to sell all my rights to the songs for an undisclosed amount....because he said that I've asked for money, had a paralegal write up a contract, that im going to be charged with extortion because i have no legal rights to the music....i had the music copywritten through washington and now the other musician says he never gave me permission to copywrite it and it belongs to him....any help?

I highly doubt you will be charged with extortion. The police would likely call it a civil matter. If you do get arrested, don't speak to anyone and contact me at kliszlaw.com to discuss. Tim Klisz
