Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
Internet Relationship
I have entered into a relationship started via internet and continued by text messages/phone calls with a 16 year old in Michigan. I am 27 years old - please spare the antagonistic comments. We have not exchanged any explicit materials of any kind. Her parents found out about our relationship and reported it to the police (as many responsible parents would do). I am not too worried as I have a clean record, but I want to be informed.
Are there any specific laws governing these sorts of relationships? I am aware that because she is still a minor the relationship can be forbidden until she reaches age 18. What other things should I be aware of?

Re: Internet Relationship
Assuming the contents of your post are correct and the girl is actually 16, Michigan has no law prohibiting your conduct.

Other things that you should be aware of would be too complex to discuss in this forum. However, a good starting point might be with a therapist that specializes is pedophelia and other psychological problems.
