Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

juvenile shoplifting

My 14-year-old son was caught shoplifting almost two weeks ago. He was told he would receive paperwork in the mail regarding court/penalties. We still have not received anything. When can we expect it and what are the possible penalties/cost? There is a week long school trip coming up that cost a lot of money that could be in jeopardy if the court date is during that time. If that happens can it be rescheduled?

Re: juvenile shoplifting

This is probably a good time to hire an attorney. An attorney can negotiate with the prosecutor if and when your son has to face the charges and what effect a conviction, even a juvenile conviction will have on his record. If you need help with this, call my office. We have experience in retail fraud cases and can work to minimize the effects of a conviction.
