Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

My landlord was found deceased in his apt. below me. The detective that was here told me that it did not appear to be a suicide, and I have since found out from the family that homicide was ruled out as well. But nothing else was offered and I still live here, and for closure, want to know what happened to him, and what the officers found that warranted further investigation. Are the records of what they found, the reports, public information?

Some of the records may be subject to public release under the Freedom of Information Act. File a letter with the county prosecuting attorney and/or police for a copy of all reports under the FOIA. But be aware that there are "exemptions" under FOIA that allow government offices to withold some information either temporarily (for example - so it will not interfere with an ongoing investigation) or permanently (for example - an unwarranted invasion of a person's privacy). If the investigation is still "open", they will probably deny the request until a charging decision has been made.
