Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

Larceny - Bike Theft

I stole 2 bicycles with a total value of $1700 and posted them for sale online. 2 days later, the police searched my apartment and found the bikes. They did not have serial numbers, but were expensive and uncommon.

When I saw that my home had been searched, I immediately turned myself in and confessed, before seeking legal advice. I just wanted to do the right thing. I am a university student and have only had traffic violations in the past.

Since the value of stolen items is over 1k, am I looking at a felony? The officer also mentioned another charge, related to the attempted resale. What does this mean? I am 21 y/o; will this stand on my record? What is a likely sentence?

This is probably a good time to get yourself an attorney. You will probably be charged with felonies and if you are convicted of two charges, you will never be able to expunge your record. From then on, whenever you fill out a job application, you will have to disclose them. This will follow you the rest of your life and make getting a good job very difficult. I would also stop talking to the police and don't do their job for them. I have experience with this sort of thing. Contact me at www. schmierlaw.com or 248.705.3742 if you need help with this

Well, you're life may not be ruined, but you will come to regret all of your impulsive activity...so why not stop now?

Since you've not been arrested yet, keep your mouth shut and wait for your appearance notice in the mail. Then you will be aware of your charge(s) and we won't have to speculate on the outcome.

Larceny - Bike Theft

You foolishly spoke to the police without having an attorney.

Quit acting foolish. You cannot determine the outcome of your case by asking a question on the internet.
