Should I have a lawyer present in court?
This is a follow up question to a question you answer a day or so ago, should I have a defence lawyer in court with me; I recieved a otice to appear reguarding assult and btty charge I'm the victim my common law sponse is the defendant, we don't have any funds for a lawyer, do we need one? I didn't press charges on him the state has, I just want him to go to aa and counseling he's been in jail since nov. 30, 2007, on the 18th of dec we will have a pre-trial conf. Thank You

Common law marriage was outlawed in Michigan in 1957.
The law is not responsible for clearing up your relationship difficulties.
You should attend his pretrial and, if you speak to his lawyer (the court will appoint one if he' s broke), you may find a way to get him released on a personal bond.

Every person charged with a crime should have a lawyer. He might even have to settle for a court appointed lawyer.
