Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

help!

i lent someone money and have

receipts regarding the transactions

however they do not want to pay me

back and it has been a year and now

when i told them if they don't start

to pay at least installments of the

amount due that i would want to go

to small claims court and they are

blackmailing me saying that they are

going to shed light on some illegal

activity that was going on at the time

even though it is completely

irrelevant to the money situation is it

also possible to add the court fees

and the cost of transportation only to

the initial amount since the person

lives in a different state than i?

Re: help!

Yes, you should be able to include the cost of the court filing fee in your claim but not the costs involved in your transportation to the court.

Re: help!

assuming this matter will be filed in Michigan, you cannot recover transportation costs. The illegal activities have nothing to to with your collection case. The person could presumably turn you in if they had facts that would be problematic. I would be happy to consult with you on this matter. Visit www.kliszlaw.com to discuss. Tim Klisz
