Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
possible licence suspension
I went to court for 2 counts of motor vehicle fuel theft, which carries and manditory 180 days licence suspension. I chose the representation of a public defender. We pled it down to 1 count of 3rd degree retail fraud. This was 2 months ago. I called the secretary of state, and they said there was no suspenstion on record for me. So my question is, is it possible i slipped thru the cracks and the licence suspension didnt get reported, or did me pleading it down make the suspension ''go away''? (for the lack of a better term) Also if this comes back to haunt me is there a statute of limitations on something like this i.e. time to report a licence suspenstion.

Your court appointed attorney will have all of the facts that are necessary in order to properly answer your questions (without need to guess at the facts.)

Call or visit the court. Ask the clerk for the judge's order (You probably threw your copy away). Then ask the criminal clerk if the order was extracted to the secretary of state (RFIII convictions aren't).
or go to the SoS and ask to see your record.
or, do nothing. If your license is suspended, the SoS acts quickly and would notify you if your address has remained the same.
