Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
Mentally ill man of group home set our home on fire
My husband and I live next to a residental group home. This is a small group home for the mentally ill in Wayne County, MI. They recently added a resident. It is believed that this resident left the home in the middle of the night, walked over to our home and set it on fire. He also used an unsuccessful accelerant. Additionally, an attempt to blow up one of our vehicles was made. Also, we had some damage to our fence gate and it was left wide open which resulted in our dogs running away. Our phone box was also kicked off the side of the home and the wire were ripped out. Although this case is still under investigation, it is beleived that the one responsible is one of the mentally ill adults living next to us. When this has been established, who is responsible for the crime? The homeowner? The Staff? It cannot be the licensee as they are not currently licensed. Do we have a chance at a successful lawsuit against the one who is found responsible? What kind of charges are we looking at? We were sleeping in the home at the time of the crime.

were your losses covered by homeowners insurance? If not, you may have a case against the home. What are your losses? Visit www.kliszlaw.com to discuss these issues. Tim Klisz
