This is the "criminal law" section of LawGuru.com. You need to either resubmit your question in another more appropriate category (e.g., Employment Law) ... or contact people in the healthcare industry to see if this is a specific problem across the board. Personally, I think that the question cannot be answered here because every employer will likely be setting their own standards for hiring one person over another. So, the "effect" of this one person's Minor in Possession will depend on who is doing the hiring, what the job is for, who else is applying (and comparing their backgrounds to your son's), etc.
There are 'diversion' programs which your attorney can negotiate and/or petition the Court so that the employer (private) and the public will not be able to see. You need to hire a good attorney.

There are a number of ways to keep this from his record so that no future employer will discover this very minor crime. It seems that today, a MIP is becoming a right of passage for today's youth. I believe it's an entrance requirement for attendance at Michigan State.
