Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
Missed my sentencing date.
About a year ago, I recieved a ticket for a Minor in Possesion of Alcohol. I went to my court dates, met with a probation officer for the pre-sentencing meeting. I was scheduled to appear for my sentencing, however I missed it due to obligations at school. I kept putting it off, and now I am realizing it has been a year. My question is, how much worse have I made things, and would it be worth it to get a lawyer? Thank you.

Some judges have been imposing jail sentences in MIP cases despite the fact that the offense does not carry a jail sentence. In your case, a judge may attempt to hold you in contempt for failing to abide by a court order.
You should call an attorney who regularly does criminal defense in the court in question. He should be able to tell you what the judge is likely to do and be able to arrange for you to be arraigned on your bench warrant.

You probably have made it worse and there is probably a bench warrant for your arrest. If you feel well qualified to practice law, you may not need an attorney. On the other hand, if you are asking questions like you've asked, my guess is that you are not qualified to practice law and you should immediately call an aggressive and competent attorney. If this is your only alcohol related charge, probably not. Call the court for the best time to turn yourself in and attend at that time.
Be prepared to show the court documents (i.e. schedules, test dates) of the "obligations at school" that necessitated your non-appearance.
If this is not your first alcohol charge or if your "obligations" aren't valid, you might consider getting at least a court appointed lawyer.
There is a bench warrant out for you. Whatever you do, don't risk getting pulled over for a traffic stop because you may go directly to jail and your car will be impounded.
Turn yourself in with/without a lawyer.
