Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

A Personal Protection Order Due To Misinformation

I was detained by U.S. Immigration while trying to come back into the U.S. due to a Personal Protection Order which there was never a hearing or was I served notice.

Upon getting a copy of the Personal Protection Order the order was granted due misinformation provided to the court.

1. How do I get PPO dropped?

2. Once the PPO is dropped do I have recourse against the petitioner for giving the misinformation for the additional costs to my trip ( the immigration delay caused me to miss my flight and had to stay another night out of the country)?

Thank you in advance.

Re: A Personal Protection Order Due To Misinformation

There are a number of factors to consider, still. How recently was the PPO granted? What is your current immigration status (I practice immigration law and criminal law)? Did the person who provided the incorrect information do this maliciously (if you know) or purposely? Or was it simply a mistake? Were you served the PPO hearing notice at your last known address? If the PPO was granted not too long ago, and you weren't given proper notice of the hearing, perhaps you can do something about it.

I would be happy to check into the immigration and criminal aspects of your question, if you want. Please contact me:
