Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
Plea Bargains--when are they offered?
Is it uncommon for a plea bargain to be offered BEFORE an arrest has been made? And if the offer is rejected, how likely is it then for an arrest to happen?

Re: Plea Bargains--when are they offered?
Yes, there can be some negotiations prior to a charge actually being brought, such as if you were an accomplice or a witness and they are offering to not bring charges against you in exchange for your testimony.
An arrest can only happen if there is probable cause for the arrest, and then a conviction will only result if there is enough evidence to support the charges.
If the potential charges are serious, you should consult with a lawyer before deciding which route to take.
