Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
So far i plead guilty and cooperated with police and made all my court dates. I opened the door of an unlocked car and took a guitar with value over $200 but under $1,000. This is my first offense, its a misdemeanor. I am currently in college. If i go to jail for a year, i'll lose my financial aid for college, lose my car and everything. I have already lost my job, girlfriend, and family respect. The judge wants me in jail for a year. Is there any way that I can fight this for a reduced punishment? I think 1 year in jail is too harsh, I am willing to pay a fine.

You must have retained an incredibly inept attorney or gone without one if you're facing serious jail time for this first offense.
Now's the time to get this corrected, i.e. before you see the judge again.
