anyone can search your trash - it's trash - it's been discarded - they don't need a reason. There is no expectation of privacy or confidentiality when it comes to trash.

Trash ("discarded trash") is abandoned property. The original owner thus has no reasonable expectation of privacy to those items. Indeed, the owner would expect that someone would take the stuff away. Without a reasonable expectation of privacy in the stuff being searched, there is no constitutional protection, or constitutional violation for police going through it.

Where was the trash located? In your house or on the curb as abadoned and discarded trash?
