Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

posession of marijuana

About a week and a half ago, my cousin and I were stopped in southwest Michigan. My cousin was driving and I was in the passenger seat. The officer asked us to step out of the car and the car was searched. We both admitted to possessing the drugs and each had less than 1/8 oz. of marijuana on us. We both were then booked and released after paying $100 for bond. I have one prior for marijuana over 8 years ago but was never booked and it is not on my record after I payed a fine and did some community service. My cousin and I both have court dates coming up and were wondering how we should plead? What should we do/who should we talk to to avoid jail time? We really can't afford to hire an attorney to go with us. Should we speak to the DA before court? What should we expect?

posession of marijuana

You should expect that you are not qualified to practice law and that you will be risking the possibility of having an experienced and aggressive attorney fighting for you. It is foolish to think that you can't afford an attorney when it is so very important that you do have an attorney.
