Re: possession
Here's what you can expect:
1. If you try to practice law and represent yourself, you may well get the worst results.
2. If you rely on an inexperienced or woos attorney, you could get better results than representing yourself, but worse results than if the case was handled in by a great lawyer.
3. If you hire an experienced and aggressive lawyer, you should get get the best possible results which may include a dismissal of the chages (depending on the facts of the case.)

Re: possession
If this is your arraignment, i.e. first appearance, it is to be expected that you will arrive in court on time -- clean* and sober. You will be asked how you plead to the charges - guilty or not guilty. The magistrate (or judge) will probably not let you plead guilty, but enter a plea of not guilty and set you for a pretrial hearing when you will have a chance to talk with the prosecutor. This is when a lawyer comes in handy as you don't wan't to plead guilty as charged resulting in a permanent record; license suspension; and up to 93 days in jail,if you violate probation.
*It takes 30-40 days for the THC to leave your system. If you drop dirty at your arraignment, you might be in for an unnecessary adventure in involuntary captivity. Most lawyers know how to prevent this from happening.
