Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

I was previously on probation for a misdeamor from the time I had gone to court till now I have been married when I met with my probation officer I had to bring in all my current information including my marriage license which I did. The case got filed under my maiden name anyway. I was put on probation (not realizing the name thing) I never reported to him at all except the first the day. On my last day I had an appointment with him. I was going to be late so I called him way ahead of time he said don't worry you are all set. Well I went and paid all my fines that I owed according to what they told me. Apparently there was $68 dollars missed. I never knew. I went on with my life. 8 years later I get in trouble in a different county and find out about all this. Now I am battling two counties and I am literally at my wits end my attorney will not communicate with me and I want this all taken care of I have already been arrested on the first crime that was not arrestable in the first place because of FTA that I never knew about cause well it never came to me. Obviously they have the wrong name how could it get to me. I jus need some sort of guidance I am not one to get in trouble so I don't know how to manipulate the law and i am very depressed and sick over this whole thing. I need some kind of advice my husband and I hired an attorney but so far everything he has told us has been wrong now I am worried.

I am sorry that you are going through this ordeal. But the first thing you should do is to relax and take it one step at a time. Second, contact your probation officer on your first case and explain what is going on. Third, you should send your present attorney a letter or e-mail to immediately contact you and answer your questions. If you feel that your attorney is ill advising you and has been ineffective, you ought to consider retaining another attorney who is not only knowledgable about the law pertaining to your case(s) but one who is ethical and passionate about your matter.

Again, I am sorry that you're going through this and hopefully you will achieve a good result. From what you've described it doesn't seem that your matter can't be resolved swiftly. Good Luck. Daniel Hajji
