Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

Probation vs. Substance abuse program

I was sentenced to a substance abuse program as part of my probation. My probation ends before the substance abuse program does. Do I have to complete the program to fulfill my probation? It does not say anything about completing the program, just that I have to attend.

Re: Probation vs. Substance abuse program

The prior reply made a good suggestion: get something in writing. But in my experience, the courts want you to not only "participate" in these programs, but to also "successfully complete" them, too. If that isn't explicit, it's implied. Check with your attorney + your probation officer. In the mean time, keep working toward completing the program!

I would get that in writing from your probation officer. It would appear that once discharged from probation, you are finished and cannot be violated.
