First off, I understand your personal interest in the case. As the defendant's girlfriend, you should be concerned about the possible punishment he might get. But I don't think that "the court house" has any duty to give YOU answers to these questions. You are not the defendant, and you are not the defendant's attorney. Essentially, you are just one of "the public", and I know of no responsibility that "the court house" (court clerks, the sheriff's department, or the prosecutor) has to tell the general public what might happen on a pending case. There are too many variables that the court clerk, or sheriff, or prosecutor (or even attorneys responding to LawGuru.com questions) may not know that are critical to answer your specific questions. Is he properly charged, and does he have any legal defenses? What is the defendant's complete criminal history (felonies and misdemeanors)? Is he on probation or parole? What are the complete facts of the case (the "offense variables" that are scored in the felony sentencing guidelines)? What are the prosecutor's charging and plea bargain practices? Which judge will he get, and what are that judge's sentencing practices? Depending on his age and criminal background, is he eligible for a deferred sentence? Etc. These questions, and many others, go into the equation to answer your questions.

I suggest that your boyfriend -- the Defendant -- get an attorney (hired, or court-appointed) to look into these issues.
