Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

I am a recovering drug addict, free from drugs since may, 2008. I just finished an intensive recovery program where I lived and recieved treatment for one year. I am ready to face my past legal issues and Im not sure how to go about it, I would like to turn myself in today, i have 3 warrents in two countys in Michigan, all for retail fraud, this all happened while I was on the drugs. I have proof of rehab, and a few letters from different theripists. I guess my question is if I turn myself in today (Sun) so I can see a judge in the morning will th Sherif dept. allow me to show the judge my paperwork? is this the best way to handle this? I dont have money for a lawyer and i just want to get it over with so i can go on with my life. any sugestions?

Indeed you ought to turn yourself in. You will likely have warrants out for your arrest for all your pending charges. Once you are arraigned, the court will lift the outstanding warrant. However, you will need to resolve your other warrants as well. I strongly suggest you retain an attorney. If you can't find an attorney that will help you on an installment payment plan, you ought to ask the Judge for a court-appointed attorney. Contact our law office, we may be able to assist you. It seems that you are in White Lake Twp, MI and assuming that these charges stem within the oakland county area, you should contact Dan Hajji at 248.865.4700 for help.

Realize that, if you have warrants in other courts, you will be held (unless you're a really good talker) until you are arraigned in all of them. Bring all documentation that demonstrates your recovery (IOP, AA, NA, rehab etc.) and also bring anyone that can affirm your recovery (like your parents) to the court. Of course, you'll be able to drop clean when you surrender. If you aren't clean, you'll likely be locked up. Dress nicely (No Jeans).

Ask for a court appointed attorney if only to impress the magistrate that you'll show up next time.
