Re: registering

I'm unclear about your facts. Do you mean you were charged with Failure to Register As A Sex Offender? Failure to Register a Motor Vehicle? Etc?

If you have been charged with a crime for failing to do a legally required act (like registering as a sex offender), then the crime was commited and finalized when you failed to register when you were supposed to do it. You don't "undo" the crime by registering late. So, you can still be prosecuted.

But, if you take care of the legal deficiency by doing later what you were supposed to do earlier, then it might influence the prosecutor in a plea negotiation, and might even influence the judge in the severity of the punishment imposed.
