Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
Reporting crime
My girlfriend keyed my ex-wifes car while she was out of town. I tried for a couple of days to get a hold of my ex to tell her and work out a arrangement to get it fixed. Was I under a resposibility to call the police as soon as I found out what happened or was it ok to try to talk to my ex-wife first. My ex-wife did file a police report two days later and I did call in my girlfriends information to the police at that time. My ex is stating that I was an accomplice since I did not call the police as soon as I knew.

Re: Reporting crime
As long as you were not involved in the keying incident, you have no criminal liability. Further, you had no responsibility to report the crime committed by another person.
