Another question, will a simple contract saying the money will keep the cops out of our affairs be sufficient if she tries to press charges at a later date? Since there is a lean from a private owner on the car I am sure I'll want his signature on the contract also. If this question does not go to the same attorney you should know it is a case where I give 1500 dollars to my ex or she calls the cops for some broken windows in her car.

Pay by cashier's check or money order - leaving your name off the check but, of course, including hers as the payee. In the memo portion of the check, put "Car windows". Keep your copy of the check as proof of payment.

You could politely ask her to sign a Release (Upon receipt of $ 1,500, I release you from all liability for damage to my [ your ex's ] vehicle), but don't demand she sign it as a condition of payment. No other party needs to be involved.
