Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
Retail fraud involvement
A friend and I were at a meijers
when we were caught trying to take
a $10 bottle of alcohol. they
took HIM NOT ME into a room and
questioned him until a police officer
came. when my friend came
out with cuffs on, I followed them
because he was my ride home. the
officer turned around, saw
me, and told me that I was involved
because I knew what was going on
and didn't stop it. They
took both of us to jail and we both
have a court date. I got RFIII and
my friend got RFIII and MIP.
I am 17, he is 18. I know that I did
wrong, but all the explanations I
have seen say that you have
to be the one who actually does the
stealing. I never touched the
alcohol, I DID help pay for what
it was concealed in though, but the
LP officer told me that I was alright
when they took my friend.
Should I plead guilty, or should I get
a lawyer?
What punishment can I
expect for this?
Because of my age, can I keep this
off my record? How?
The store only detained my friend for
RF, it was only the police officer who
took me. What does that
implicate?

Re: Retail fraud involvement
First, you should not try to resolve your case or get complex answers on the internet. I suggest that you retain a lawyer to try to beat this case and/or keep it off your record. You can call our office on Monday and set an appointment to meet with us if you'd like to hire an attorney.
