Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
''Retail Fraud'' $53.xx
I am a healthcare professional who did something really stupid in Dec 07. Upon leaving the store, security stopped me. I confessed. Local Police came, but I was not taken in. I thought I understood that I would get a letter in mail telling me when to appear before judge. 03/08, letter came from Retail Store Attny, with a fine of $200.00, I paid that.
Recently, I learned there is a bench warrant regarding this, ''All I need to do is urn myself in before 0830, and will see judge that day''.
I have been job searching for months. When a background check is done, Does the bench warrant appear to the potential employer?
How will this effect my professinal license? I am embarrassed, fearful. I'm almost afraid in job shopping of the application process.
I ''assumed'' after I had got the letter from the retail store of the fine, and paid it. It was done, as I never received a letter to appear locally, I assumed that was a process the Retail Store was taking.

the money you paid was a civil damage provision and has nothing to do with the underlying criminal case. You need immediate representation from a qualified attorney to help you on this. I can probably keep it off your permanent criminal record, and therefore not detrimental to your job search. Visit me at www.kliszlaw.com to discuss your options. Tim Klisz

Unfortunately, the $200 you tendered to the company was a civil demand and doesn't resolve the criminal case. Without knowing all the facts and reviewing all of the reports it is impossible to tell you your chances of keeping this off your record. I would be glad to talk with you further if you'd like.
