Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

Retail Fraud

I'm 17 years old, yesterday I was in JC Penny in Novi, Mi, I was caught stealing. I stole a $45 dollar pair of earrings. After talking to Loss Prevention they informed me I would be paying JC Penny $200, that's the least of my worries. I was taken to jail, where I admitted to what I did. I told the police officer everything. I'm trying to avoid getting a lawyer; what is the best route for me to take (guilty, not guilty, no contest) and with taking that route, what charges/fines should I expect to get? Is there anyway of avoiding probation?

You need a lawyer period. This could haunt you for your entire life if it is not handled properly. I have handled dozens of Retail Fraud cases in Novi District Court. It can be a very scary place. Please contact me on Monday for a free consultation on this matter. www.kliszlaw.com Tim Klisz

Re: Retail Fraud

You're telling a lawyer that you want to avoid lawyers?...

Hath not a lawyer feelings? If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh?

Your case is kind of like visiting the hospital after you've been taken to the morgue. But, anyway...

Ask for HYTA when you get to court. I tell my clients to ignore the letter for $200 you'll be getting from a Florida lawfirm.

Trying to saving money by avoiding getting a lawyer may be a big mistake. It may end up costing you more in the long run. An attorney may be able to negotiate a better deal, keep this off your record, and save you a lot of money in fines and penalties. If you need help with this, contact my office.

Re: Retail Fraud

You're foolish enough to steal.

You're foolish enough to steal cheap crap.

You're foolish enought to confess to your crime.

Now you're foolish enough "to avoid getting a lawyer", right?

You're doing pretty well on your own without a lawyer so you just keep up the good work!
