Re: sex offender

25 years.

But, how are you defining "minor": Under 21? Under 18? Under 17?

If the person was 17 or older when the crime happened, or was under 16 but was "prosecuted as an adult", then the registration will be on the PUBLIC sex offender registry.

If this person is under 17 and prosecuted in juvenile court, then the registration will be on the NON-PUBLIC sex offender registry even after he/she turns 18. Only police, prosecutors and courts can 'see' the registry (essentially to make sure he/she is complying with mandates to re-register, notify address changes, etc.). The general public cannot 'see' him/her on an internet search at www.mipsor.state.mi.us.

You can read more about the SOR (a helpful FAQ, statutory text, etc.) at the Michigan State Police web site: www.michigan.gov/msp . Look for the SOR link on the right-hand margin.
