Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
Shoplifting Charges at Macy's in Michigan
Hi, I am a 19 year old college pre-
med student and I live in Macomb,
Michigan. A few days ago, I got
caught shoplifting at Macy's. I have
no idea why I did this. I paid for a
shirt and I stole a small Guess purse.
It was valued at about $25-35.
The Macy's plain clothed dressed
security officers, (2 ladies) went after
me as soon as I left the store. I
admitted to them that I did steal the
purse, and they searched my purse,
wallet, and other purchases. They
also counted the cash I had.
Then she asked if I stole something
from there before to get the gift
certificate. Honestly, I would never
do such a thing.
I have a clean record, and never
have gotten in to such big trouble
before. I have asked myself many
times why I did this, and I can't
come up with an answer.
I can't tell my parents because they
will probably disown me. I also
cannot afford a lawyer. Please help
me. I have no idea what will happen
to me and I am very scared. Please
help me.
-Thanks.

I strongly recommend you find a way to have an experienced and aggressive attorney representing you. A criminal record for theft is a lifelong stigma. I suggest speaking to friends and/or family, raising money and then calling us at 1 8667665245. We've got fabulous results state-wide in Michigan.

Assuming this is your first offense of a criminal nature, you can try to get the prosecutor to offer the case under the HYTA law, which is available to defendants under the age of 20 who are charged with a first offense. If successful, you can keep the charge off your public criminal record, but will have probation, etc.
