My son is in prison for home invasion in the first degree he took a plea deal for 8 - 20 years how long will he really serve in prison

Under the Truth in Sentencing Act he has to serve his minimum sentence before being eligible for parole. That means he has to do the eight years and then it is up to the parole board I checked gets out. They have a number of criteria they look at. If denied, he will be reviewed by the parole board every year.
