I was talkin to a friends of mine and he told me that he had been charged with agg. assult and he ran from bail bcus he could not pay the restitution and for the anger mang. and drug tests monthly totally over 12000 dollars total to be split between him and another party. He wants to be able to return to his home state without doing any jail time is it at all possible he says he would pay whatever fees and do community servie if he has to. is there any way this will work or any sort of deal that can be made?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Restitution orders remain due and owing for the rest of his life until paid in full. They cannot be discharged in bankruptcy. They cannot be knocked down by doing community service, or even by serving jail time. The money must be paid and goes to the victim.
