Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

theft

Can I be charged with felony theft if there is no evidence. I was accused of stealing jewelery from my friend. I do not have the jewelery. There has been a complaint filed with the police. Can there be charges filed?

I was at my friend's home last Friday, they claimed I stole 2 necklaces, which I did not do. They have called the police and filed a complaint. I have talked to the police; they informed me that this is a felony. The police want me to come in and give a statement. I am very nervous; it is their word against mine. Since I do not have their jewelery, can the police charge me with this crime?

Re: theft

you can certainly be charged with a crime, and certainly should not give any statement without counsel present. Visit www.kliszlaw.com to discuss. Tim Klisz

Re: theft

I would not make a statement until hiring a lawyer. I am regularly in the Livingston county circuit court, and suggest that you get a lawyer who knows and is familiar with the court system there.

Call me if you would like.

Re: theft

Many innocent people are in prisons cells right now. You should not be speaking to any police without having your lawyer present.
