Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
First time non-violent felony sentencing
My sister-in-law has plead guilty to bringing contraband into a county jail (she put methadone in a sock for her husband). It is a five year felony. She has a public defender, as she can not afford to hire an attorney. She is 38 and has a clean record, has never recieved so much as a traffic ticket. My family is very concerned. The District Judge is known for handing out very stiff sentences. My question is, what can we resonably expect at sentencing and will she be able to actually expunge this from her record at some point in the future. Thank you in advance for any insight.

She can get the conviction expunged 5 years after her probation ends.
