Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
first time retail fraud offense question
I am an 18 year old male, no prior offenses, tickets, anything, at all. I comitted retail fraud in the amount of 74.50 at a Meijers store. I was stealing liquor. It was a stupid teenage mistake. I was cooperative with the police and a court date will be set for me soon I was told, also, Meijers fined me $200 for the crime, due in 27 more days as of today. What are the chances that I am facing jail time? I'm very scared and seeking help.

Re: first time retail fraud offense question
You're not going to jail for Retail Fraud III. One year probation is the standard punishment. However you should ensure that this offense is not on your record and that the terms of your probation are suitable. An attorney can assist you in keeping your record clean.
Are you sure you are not also charged with Minor in Possesssion? Let me know if you are.
